Features

The WA series was developed to accurately measure the concentration of mercury in environment air and in gases in various matrices (such as LPG, LNG and flue gas).

The WA series is equipped with the double-amalgamation unit that has established high reputation as well as the highly sensitive detector. Therefore, it can be used in a wider rage of fields. Additionally, you can choose a detector of atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) or atomic fluorescence spectroscopy (AFS)* before delivery.

We can provide many optional units, including the automatic sample changer that can handle up to 30 mercury collector tubes which helps you significantly improve work efficiency; the LPG vaporization equipment for measurement; and the reducing-vaporization unit for liquid sample measurement. By connecting the dedicated dry gas meter, you can also perform automatic sampling/measurement of samples in Tedler® Bags.

Applications

The typical measuring samples include environment air, working environment air, flue gas, natural gas, shale gas, LPG and other forms of elemental vapor phase mercury.

Also, by connecting the reducing-vaporization unit, you can also measure samples such as tap water, river water, sea water, industrial wastewater, and wet pretreated decomposed solutions.

Measurement flow

Gases such as environment air or flue gas are flowed through the mercury collector tube in which mercury is trapped by gold amalgamation. Then, the tube is heated using the furnace while air not containing mercury is passing through it. In this way, mercury collected as gold amalgam is liberated as elemental vapor phase mercury. Next, the gas flows through the scrubber unit where interferences that obstruct measurement are removed, then the gas is cooled to remove moisture. Then, the gas is passed through the mercury collector tube in the re-collecting furnace to re-collect mercury alone in the gold amalgam form, to separate mercury from coexisting substances, and to avoid interferences. Finally, the mercury concentration is measured by atomic absorption spectroscopy or atomic fluorescence spectroscopy.

For measurements by atomic absorption spectroscopy, the cell for high-sensitivity measurements (1 pg to 20 ng) and the cell for wide range measurements (1 ng to 1000 ng) are used at the same time.
